Minnow left the coral reef for a dark, secluded cave after being bitten by a big fish. Big fish almost swallowed her but Minnow escaped in the nick of time and has been nursing her clipped fin in the last few months.
During this time the world continued without Minnow. Other fish and crustaceans hardly noticed her absence because she is, by definition, a small fish. Big fish and other predators moved on to scout for new victims in the Darwinian world.
Such is the law of nature.
Stories of peaceful co-existence are exceptions / aberrations that belong to the bible. Minnow must learn to swim, because staying afloat isn’t enough to survive the treacherous water she inhabits.
